Q: How can I create a user account?
A:  Depending on the data portal, the link for creating a new account will be listed in the left menu or somewhere in the header. Clicking on “New Account” will take you to a page that will allow you to create a personal account with your own login and password. Note that you only need an account if you plan to use the portal to manage data. Once you create a login, you can contact the collection manager or portal administrator (usually list on the portal’s homepage) to request specific permissions.
Q: I have forgotten my password. Can you send me my password?
A:  Passwords are encrypted within the database and therefore irretrievable. However, you can have the system reset your password. 1) Go to the portal login page and attempt to login, 2) Upon login failure, a link will be supplied above login box that will enable you to reset your password, 3) Your new password will be sent to the email address you used when you created your account, 4) Login using the new password supplied to you and click on the 'My Profile' link located left menu or header, 5) Click on the "Edit Profile" tab and change your password to something that is easier to remember.
