Symbiota empowers over 1,900 natural history collections to manage and share invaluable specimen-based data to advance biological research, conservation efforts, and biodiversity data literacy worldwide. By donating to Symbiota—a service of the KU Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum–you can directly contribute to the maintenance and growth of 60+ Symbiota-based portals that are heavily relied upon by under-resourced academic and non-profit natural collections. Many of these Symbiota users and data providers have no other means to participate in the global biodiversity data ecosystem. Your one time or recurring tax deductible gift to Symbiota will thus have a wide and impactful reach in support of biodiversity research and conservation. Donations made to Symbiota can be made for general or specific purposes. General contributions will be used to provide ongoing access to services provided by the Symbiota Support Hub (SSH), including a dedicated user help desk, training materials and events, cyberinfrastructure maintenance, bug fixes, and software enhancements for the benefit of all collections that rely on Symbiota portals.

How do I donate?
Donations can be made through a secure online portal managed by the University of Kansas (KU) Endowment. If you would like to give to the SSH, please follow the steps outlined below. Questions about this process can be directed to our Help Desk (help@symbiota.org).

2. Choose a gift amount: Select the amount you would like to give. Suggested amounts range from $10-$1000 USD, but any amount can be entered into the form.
3. Determine whether you would like to give once (“Give Now”), or whether you would like to make a series of scheduled or recurring gifts.
4. Gift area(s): Indicate how you would like your gift to be allocated. By default, 100% of your gift will be designated for the Symbiota Support Hub; however, if you would like all or a portion of your gift to support a specific Symbiota portal community, please indicate that amount using the “Gift Area(s)” section of the form and specifying the portal’s name in the “Other Purpose” field.
5. About you: Complete the “About You” fields as directed on the form.
