Established in 2008, the Consortium of Northeastern Herbaria (CNH) was one of the first herbarium communities to establish its own dedicated Symbiota portal (2011-present). CNH has a long history of collaborative digitization, with many member collections participating in one or more Thematic Collection Networks starting with the Mobilizing New England Vascular Plant Specimen Data to Track Environmental Change (NEVP TCN) in 2012. Dr. Patrick Sweeney has actively managed this Symbiota portal community for 25+ years and continues to onboard additional collections to the portal. During this Portal Advancement Campaign, the SSH and CNH community accomplished the following:

  • Linked 74.4k specimen records to the taxonomic thesaurus
  • Added 12.6k taxonomic names to the taxonomic thesaurus
  • Standardized entry of 12.3k species-level scientific names on catalog records
  • Standardized 3,801 country values
  • Refreshed stale snapshot data and cleaned up 1.1k duplicate records
  • Conducted outreach to 29 collections regarding data publishing and 24 collections regarding data quality
  • Connected 14 individuals during one or more weekly
