Symbiota 3.1 Overview

The Symbiota Support Hub (SSH) is planning the rollout of its latest major code release to all SSH-maintained Symbiota portals. Symbiota 3.1 includes new features, bug fixes, and optimizations to improve portal functionality and further support extended specimen data.
Here are some highlights of what you can expect:
  • New, streamlined Public Search Page based on the NEON sample search page.
  • Additional fields in the Occurrence Editor (i.e., data entry page), including End DateContinentWater BodyIsland GroupIsland, and Vitality.
  • Improved mapping functionality, including (1) switching from Google Maps to the open source mapping platform Leaflet, (2) optimization to improve mapping speed, and (3) the ability to create heat maps
  • The ability to batch uploaded linked resources / associated occurrences through the new Extended Data Import Tool
    • Thanks to the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, California Botanic Garden, and George Mason University for funding this new tool!
  • Improved organization and usability of the Linked Resources Tab
  • New Batch Image Tagging Tool
  • New Collection Quick Search Tool, as well as user interface improvements, for your collection profile page
    • Thanks to the US Department of Agriculture National Arboretum for funding this tool!
  • Improved look and feel, including unified icons and replacement of some confusing icons with buttons
