Checklist & Dataset Permissions (Update)

You may recall that in July the Hub rolled out a new user permission category–”Create a Checklist”–to help prevent spamming of portal checklists and datasets. Previously, anyone could create a checklist or dataset; unfortunately, this means that spammers used checklists to post irrelevant advertisements on some portals. Now, any user with “Administrator” permissions on a collection can sponsor other users to create new checklists and datasets in their portal. Administrators automatically have this permission applied to their accounts; Editors (in addition to Taxonomy, Taxon Profile, Glossary, and Identification Keys Editors) do not. That said, if your user account was created before June 2022, you were granted “Create A Checklist” permissions by the Hub in July.

To enable other users to create checklists and datasets:

  • Navigate to any collection’s Administration Control Panel > Manage Permissions > Checklist / Dataset Management Sponsorship
If your user account has “Administrator” permissions applied, you can sponsor other users to create new checklists and datasets in your portal through the Administration Control Panel.
